Why biocotton?

• Conventional cotton cultivation and the production of cotton garments have a negative impact on the environment and the farmers and workers who are supported by the textile industry
• Cotton fields occupy less than 3% of the world's cultivated land but consume about 25% of all insecticides and 10% of all herbicides
• Massive use of chemicals that are banned in food production to grow cotton
• Cotton is one of the most genetically modified plants, especially to tolerate higher than average doses of chemicals
• It takes about half a kilo of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers to produce one T-shirt and one pair of jeans
• The use of toxic chemicals that cause poisoning of farm workers and harm the environment, as well as genetically modified organisms, is prohibited in the cultivation and production of organic cotton
• Certified farms aim to build a biodiverse farming system and maintain soil fertility naturally
• Unlike conventionally grown cotton, bio-cotton does not cause allergic reactions - therefore it is suitable for children, allergy sufferers, eczema sufferers and people with sensitive skin

Certification

Our organic cotton products meet the high standards of the international GOTS organisation. The cultivation of organic cotton is monitored and controlled from seed to final processing of the fabric, including sewing. Inspectors also monitor the social conditions of workers (video on growing and producing organic cotton).
