The entire function of the pot depends on a special circular silicone seal in the lid, if you damaged it and could not get it as a spare part, the entire function of the pressure cooker would go to the "Eternal Hunting Grounds". Hopefully the manufacturer is counting on it and it is commonly available. Silicone is a great material, but quite susceptible to damage from sharp objects.
The system of forced steam release, i.e. steam depressurization (if you do not want to wait for a natural pressure drop), is a mechanical switch whose long-term functionality I doubt, so I recommend not to use this method of depressurization for the long life of the pot.
