I would have thought that the sixth generation of the product would somehow address this, at least by allowing a reduction in the strength of noise cancellation in exchange for increased comfort by reducing the aforementioned phenomenon.
In the end I don't return them, I keep them in case I need a really high quality call. I bought them with an extra discount on sale and still unpacked, but I am definitely not satisfied and cannot recommend them.
For daily driving, an order of magnitude cheaper (yes, really an order of magnitude) headphones will do a much better job.

I'm not an audiophile, I'm a normal listener and I was hoping that compared to the airpods1 or XM4, I would experience listening to music that would make me weak in the knees and not want to take the headphones off.
