An excellent monitor with beautiful colours and a smooth image. After switching from my older 24" MSI Optix G241VC FHD LCD monitor, the Dell Alienware AW2724DM is a huge leap for me in image quality, color and overall impression. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but this monitor absolutely meets all my expectations and delivers a great experience for both gaming and everyday use.
I'm fully comfortable with the monitor, whether it's the colours, sharpness, smoothness or overall impression. Compared to the old FHD model, the difference is huge and I enjoy better picture quality every day. .
QHD resolution (2560×1440) and 240Hz - smooth and sharp images without tearing.
PS panel with high brightness and HDR - colors are vivid, bright and much better than on the old monitor.
Great responsiveness and G-Sync/FreeSync support - no ghosting or tearing in games.
Modern design and ergonomics - thin bezels, RGB backlighting and a stable stand with height adjustment
Plenty of connectors (HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, USB hub)
The quality of the monitor is great, the display is pleasing, great rich colours without dirty screen effect and after downloading the calibrated colour profile from RTINGS the colour display is accurate otherwise the colours are slightly oversaturated, which most people like anyway. The refresh rate of 165Hz is great, and the image feels almost static in Windows, when moving through windows and doing normal work. CS2 at 165Hz is also eminently playable competitively. More demanding games like RE4, RDR2, TLoU1 are beautifully smooth on this panel even at 60 fps with sync on and you actually feel like the game is running at multiple frames. It's cloudy in my office, so I'm running the brightness at 25-30, which is just right for my eyes. I haven't had a chance to try HDR yet. I recommend updating the monitor FW via the Dell app. The monitor does have some minor negatives, the fast IPS panel used suffers from the general problems of this technology, but Dell has obviously minimised these by keeping an eye on the output quality. However, there is about a 1cm wide shadow around the panel all the way around, from the YT videos all the reviewed, unboxed pieces I've seen have this. My piece has no backlight bleeding (well assembled panel) for it has a flat really big IPS Glow (again a feature of the tech. panel) In normal use, you can't notice it even in dark scenes but taking a picture with your phone in night mode will reveal this panel defect. For a while I was considering whether to return the monitor because of this but it does not disturb me in any way so I passed it over. I paid less than 9 thousand CZK for the monitor, which is a fair price for me. Who wants perfect black and none of the above mentioned defects must pay extra for OLED panel I couldn't justify the price of 25 thousand CZK for 27 inch OLED, so I chose what I chose. I can recommend this Alien and for the price it is definitely one of the best monitors, it will make both teenagers who play 24/7 and thirty-somethings like me who have time after work sometimes none and sometimes 5 hours. It's still worth mentioning the cheaper and poorly crafted Dell G2724D will apparently have the same panel quality and is a few thousand cheaper.
Perfect workmanship
Beautiful colours
165Hz is a super shift from 60Hz.
The 27-inch size with QHD resolution is just right
No backlight bleeding
There is no feeling of so-called. Dirty Screen Effect due to display finish
Uniform white, grey and black backlighting - no spots or colour variations across the panel
LED backlight at the back of the monitor, for those who like it: )
Pleasant to the eyes, no fatigue or discomfort even after 6h of playing
G-SYNC which will come in handy for GeForce NOW for example Alan Wake 2
No defective pixels
There is a slightly visible shadow around the display frame as another owner wrote here
My piece has considerable IPS Glow from all corners but it is so slight that it is almost not visible even in the dark. but the cell phone photos will reveal it.
The black could be a little better
My piece came with the box already opened even though I was buying new. However, the content was fine. Apparently someone was checking if the monitor was broken because of the bumped corner of the box. Whether it was the people from the alza, the shipping company or the distributor I don't know.
In general I would say a super monitor, but 11k CZK is too much. If I have to pay max 9,5k CZK for this monitor I would say good and give 5 stars.
nice colours, although slightly oversaturated, I recommend SDR and Color Preset sRGB
excellent speed
after FW update via USB fine
No visible ghosting on standard Fast (no overdrive)
simple OSD
Slightly thicker bezels around the display than the older iiyama, which is possible at this price.
around the display is such a small shadow shadow
DisplayHDR 600 is fine until there is a full dark scene on the display, or Windows dark mode, as it darkens everything and white text
Black is only black in DisplayHDR600 but it has it's issues described above
