The Azul board game casts players in the role of artists decorating the walls of the Royal Palace of Évora. Participants take turns selecting coloured tiles from the factory displays and placing them in rows on their player boards. During the rounds, they try to create the most valuable colour mosaic possible to win the favour of the Portuguese king himself. However, every wrong decision and every excess tile incurs penalty points on the scoring track. This game is designed for 2–4 players aged 8 and over, and one game takes approximately 30–45 minutes.

The Role of the Artist and a Royal Commission
Players take on the roles of master mosaic artists summoned by the Portuguese king. The goal is to decorate the walls of the Royal Palace of Évora with coloured tiles, inspired by the Spanish Alhambra. To win the monarch's favour, you must cleverly plan the placement of each piece on your game board. Each successfully completed row or column increases your total score and brings you closer to victory.
The Decorating Process and Game Rounds
The game is played over several rounds, during which participants take tiles from the factory displays. On each turn, you choose all tiles of one colour from a display and move the rest to the centre of the table. If you misjudge, you'll suffer point losses for unplaced tiles that fall to the floor and incur a penalty.

This edition contains a total of 100× plastic game tiles, divided into five colours with 20× pieces each. The coloured components are very sturdy and feel good in your hand during play.
