- ΔΣ-Drive suppresses motor vibrations for smoother, more accurate rotation
- Low-voltage power circuit and low-noise switching power supply
- Two-layer platter with high rigidity and vibration damping
- Tonearm with high initial-motion sensitivity
- High-rigidity body and high-damping silicone insulators for smooth sound and isolation from various vibrations
Coreless direct-drive motor for stable rotation
Unlike traditional belt-drive systems, the direct-drive system minimises motor-induced vibrations, thus ensuring an exceptional signal-to-noise ratio and long-term reliability without the need for frequent parts replacement. However, earlier models suffered from rotation irregularity (known as cogging) caused by iron cores that affected the consistency of the rotation. The SL-1210GR2 is equipped with an iron-coreless single-rotor/single-stator motor that eliminates cogging and maximises rotational smoothness. Experience the superior performance and extended lifespan of cutting-edge Technics technology.
New motor drive system, the ΔΣ-Drive (Delta Sigma Drive)
Take your audio to a new level of precision with the state-of-the-art ΔΣ-Drive system, which leverages Technics' expertise in PWM signal processing. In addition to reducing harmonic components, the new drive suppresses motor vibrations, providing smoother, more accurate rotation and ensuring full musical reproduction. Compared to conventional systems, the model offers sharp sound and clean playback around the 3kHz value of the audio spectrum with minimal rotational fluctuations. The ΔΣ-Drive reduces the minute vibrations that occur even with very small fluctuations in motor speed. This helps to reduce vibrations on the platter surface, improves soundstage localisation and enables richer spatial expression.
Low-noise switching circuit
The inclusion of a high-speed switching power supply guarantees consistently stable power capacity with minimal noise and hum. The clever use of a switching power supply in the turntable's design not only eliminates the need for a large transformer but also removes the necessity for additional measures to suppress mechanical vibrations. Furthermore, operation with a switching frequency exceeding 100kHz ensures that any potential noise is limited, preserving the full bandwidth of music playback and ensuring an undisturbed and excellent listening experience.
Active noise cancellation with current injection
This innovative system combines a powerful noise detection device with a precision error amplifier. It not only identifies residual noise in the power supply but goes a step further by using an inverse-phase current to eliminate these unwanted noise components. This power supply, which surpasses the efficiency of traditional regulators, provides an ideal and perfectly clean environment for your audio, free from low-frequency noise.
Tonearm with high initial-motion sensitivity
The tonearm, a key component for accurate reading, follows the rotation of the record. It inherits Technics' traditional statically-balanced universal S-shaped tonearm, featuring a lightweight and rigid aluminium tube. Thanks to its gimbal suspension, high-precision bearing, and manual assembly by skilled craftspeople, it achieves an initial-motion sensitivity of 5mg or less. The precision construction ensures accurate tracking of the record grooves. Additionally, it includes an auxiliary weight, providing flexibility for a wide range of phono cartridges.
Two-layer rigid platter with vibration damping
The sophisticated platter design ensures excellent sound quality by combining a two-layer construction with strategic damping rubber. It effectively eliminates unwanted resonance, enabling a clean and immersive audio experience. Through simulation optimisation, the die-cast aluminium part is enhanced to increase inertia and minimise vibration, resulting in better overall performance. Durability is further increased by adding strengthening ribs on the rear side. Compared to the SL-1200MK5, the platter boasts damping properties that are more than twice as effective, ensuring an unparalleled listening experience.
High-quality parts
The SL-1210GR2 guarantees high rigidity thanks to its two-layer body construction, which firmly combines a BMC and a die-cast aluminium chassis. The turntable uses gold-plated phono connectors for its detachable cables. A metal shielding structure inside the turntable body reduces the effects of external noise. For the insulators that support the body, the SL-1210GR2 uses a special silicone rubber that ensures high vibration damping and long-term reliability.
