Synology BST151-4T
Synology BST151-4T
The Synology BST151-4T network storage is designed for storing, backing up and sharing data in a home environment. This device, with its 4TB hard drive, acts as a personal cloud, providing access to your files from various devices without needing to pay regular subscription fees. The internal system uses local artificial intelligence for automatic face and object recognition in photos, without sending sensitive data to external servers. The device runs on the BeeStation operating system and features a Realtek RTD1619B processor with a frequency of 1.7GHz and 2GB of DDR4 RAM.

Setup
Initial setup of the device is done by connecting an Ethernet cable to your router and scanning the QR code from the included quick start guide. Users can configure the system in a mobile or desktop browser in just a few minutes. The entire process requires only basic steps with no complex network configuration. All you need for installation is Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Safari version 14 or later. System management is made easier with automatic notifications sent directly to the user's email if any intervention is needed.
User management
The device supports access for up to eight separate users in a single household or office. Each member gets their own separate space on the drive, which remains completely hidden from other users. Each user manages their own data and file access rights completely independently. Using a desktop web browser, the system administrator can monitor storage capacity usage for individual accounts and check the overall status of the hardware.
Intelligent photo sorting
The BeePhotos mobile app backs up photos from your phone and organises them into a clear timeline or a world map based on where they were taken. The built-in NPU coprocessor analyses uploaded images directly on the hardware and automatically recognises faces or objects. The local algorithms work without sending information to third-party cloud services, thus protecting your privacy. Users can create albums, share them with friends, or invite others to upload photos to shared folders.
Backup options
The system simplifies data protection for computers running Windows 10, Windows 11 and macOS 12.3. For backups, users can use the Time Machine tool or a three-year licence for Acronis True Image Essentials software for one computer. Automatic backups protect files from loss or damage caused by malicious ransomware. The software protects the entire operating system, applications, settings and individual files, with the option for a quick restore to a previous state.
Connectivity
On the back of the unit, there are fast USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 and USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 ports for connecting external drives or flash drives. These ports let you browse files directly without needing to copy them to the internal memory or set up automatic backups. The device also includes one gigabit RJ-45 port for creating a stable wired connection to your home router. The NAS Synology BST151-4T does not support a wireless Wi-Fi connection, which requires a permanent wired setup.
Local access and security
In the event of an unexpected internet outage, stored data can be accessed locally via a private IP address or the SMB network protocol. The security of the data in storage is enhanced by the ability to back up the entire system to the encrypted BeeProtect cloud or to another external drive or remote Synology NAS. This makes it easy for users to follow the 3-2-1 backup rule for long-term protection of important files. The system also supports a power loss recovery function.
