Gyokuro Asahi is one of the best Japanese green teas, with dark green leaves and fantastic flavour. Two weeks before harvesting, the tea bushes are covered with bamboo mats so that the leaves produce more chlorophyll (green dye) and the bush grows more slowly. It is one of the most sought-after types of green tea in the world.
Where is Japan Gyokuro Asahi grown?
One of the best gyokura cultivars is Asahi, named after the city of the same name in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. What impresses most is the way the tea is grown. The tea bush is covered with bamboo mats for two to three weeks before harvesting, which can slow its growth and make its leaves produce more chlorophyll, the green dye behind their beautiful deep green colour.
What kind of taste to expect from Japan Gyokuro Asahi?
The taste of Japan Gyokuro Asahi is unique. In the delicate sweet flower tones of the light green infusion you can also taste the flavour of umami, our fifth and relatively new discovered flavour. This fact probably says it all. Perfect tea with a unique taste is recommended to enjoy without any additives. But if you insist, you can add a few drops of lemon or a teaspoon of honey.

Japan Gyokuro Asahi, also loosely translated as Jewel of Dew, contains more caffeine than other green teas due to its specific growing methour So there is no harm in starting the morning with a cup of good gyokura.

Preparation
Use one to two teaspoons of dried Gyokura leaves to make a 250 ml infusion. Pour water at a temperature of 60 to 75°C and let it infuse for 2 to 3 minutes. If you leave the leaves to infuse for one or two minutes longer, you will get an even stronger flavour, which is never a bad thing. Beware, however, of unwanted bittering of the tea, which can occur if the water temperature is exceeded or the tea is overly steeped.
