Fujifilm Fujinon GF 20-35 mm f/4.0 R WR

The FUJINON GF 20-35mm F4 R WR is the lens with the widest angle of view in Fujifilm's GF lens range. Its zoom covers a range of focal lengths from ultra-wide 20mm to wide-angle 35mm (eq. 16-28 mm in 35 mm format) with a constant f/4 aperture. Thanks to the advanced capabilities of the GFX series, it is capable of producing 100 megapixel images with a wealth of information, full of colour and detail. The wide 108°-76° angle of view is much wider than the human field of view, allowing you to photograph the subject directly in front of you from a short distance.

Key features of the Fujifilm Fujinon GF 20-35 mm f/4.0 R WR

  • Ultra-wide-angle zoom lens with a focal length of 20-35 mm (eq. 16-28 mm)
  • Constant f/4 aperture for high quality images
  • Optical design with 14 elements in 10 groups, including 3 aspherical and 4 ED elements to minimize chromatic aberrations
  • Wide field of view coverage of up to 108° and the ability to shoot from short distances
  • Fluorine coating on the front lens for protection against water and dirt
  • Compact size (112.5 mm) and light weight (725 g) for easy portability
  • Dust and moisture resistant, capable of operating at temperatures down to -10°C

Advanced optical design for superior sharpness and minimized aberrations

The GF 20-35mm F4 R WR has all the advantages that the large format GFX system offers. (eliminating spherical aberrations for improved sharpness with minimal distortion), one aspherical ED element and three extra-low dispersion ED elements to reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range.

Nano GI coating and precision internal focusing for excellent image clarity

The lens is coated with Fujifilm's Nano GI (Gradient Index) coating to reduce ghosting and lens flare that is typical of wide-angle lenses. It smoothly changes the refractive index of light rays striking the lens at an angle, minimizing flare and suppressing ghosting to achieve maximum image clarity. A stepper motor with optimised performance is used to move the lightweight focusing lens group in the internal focusing mechanism, and is fast, quiet and maximally accurate. Focus breathing has also been minimized, allowing multiple shots of the same scene to be taken at different focus points and then seamlessly combined in post-production for maximum sharpness.

Compact and lightweight design for comfortable long-term use

Ultra-wide angle lenses tend to be large and heavy, but Fujifilm has designed the lens to be compact and comfortable for landscape photographers who spend many hours outdoors and have to carry their equipment over long distances. The GF 20-35mm F4 R WR lens measures just 112.5mm and weighs just 725g, despite being an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens with a constant f/4 aperture. The lens uses an internal zoom mechanism, maintaining a constant length during focal length changes, and does not change the centre of gravity of the lens in any noticeable way.

Precise aperture control and robust construction

The lens is designed with a near-symmetrical aperture in the centre to achieve optimum aberration correction, while having a compact, lightweight and robust magnesium alloy construction. Manual aperture ring on the lens barrel allows the aperture to be adjusted from f/4 to f/22 in 1/3 steps. The aperture ring switches between automatic aperture control (the ring is set to position A) or manual aperture control (the ring is set to one of the aperture values), or position C (Command), which allows the aperture to be adjusted via the camera body.

Weather resistance and filter protection

By using a very versatile 82mm filter thread, users can choose from a range of circular filters, especially for landscape photography. A fluorine coating has been added to the front member to repel moisture, protect against dirt build-up, (e.g. fingerprints) and prevents stains. The lens barrel is also sealed in 12 places to ensure dust and weather resistance and the ability to operate in temperatures down to -10°C.
