An SSO2 bearing is a type of hydrodynamic plain bearing used in fans, for example, those that are part of water cooling kits. The abbreviation SSO2 stands for 'Self-stabilising Oil-pressure Bearing' of the second generation. Its principle is that the fan rotor's axis rotates on a thin layer of oil. This movement creates oil pressure, which lifts the shaft and keeps it centered, thereby minimizing friction and noise. For additional stabilization, the rotor's axis is fixed in the upper part by a magnet. This helps to maintain the axis in the correct position, reduces vibrations, and extends the lifespan of the entire mechanism.
