Oleophobic lens coating

An oleophobic coating is a thin layer on the surface of a lens that repels oils and grease. Fingerprints and oily dirt adhere to it less readily and can be easily wiped off with a soft cloth. A clean lens contributes to a sharp, high-contrast image without hazy smudges. The coating is advantageous on action cameras, where the lens is often touched by hands, gloves or a protective case. Its effect may gradually decrease with use and cleaning. It is often combined with a hydrophobic or anti-reflective layer.
