MT Element Detection
MT element detection is used to verify the security thread (Metal Thread) embedded in the paper of many banknotes. The thread is made of metallic or magnetic material and usually runs across the banknote in a precisely defined position. As the banknote passes through the counter, the sensor detects the presence of the thread and measures its position and, where applicable, its course. The measured data are compared with the values stored for the given currency and denomination. The counter rejects a counterfeit that has no thread, has it in the wrong position or only has it printed on. MT element detection is therefore effective against low-quality counterfeits and complements the other verification methods.
