An automatic needle threader is a mechanical aid integrated into a sewing machine, whose task is to thread the needle's eye. The mechanism is usually activated by pressing a lever located near the needle bar. This extends a tiny metal hook towards the needle's eye. The user lays the thread over this hook, and after releasing the lever, the hook retracts, pulling a loop of thread through the eye. Subsequently, one only needs to pull through the free end of the thread, and the machine is ready for sewing. This function is helpful for users for whom manual needle threading is difficult, for example, due to poor eyesight.
