When searching for a mobile phone, the chip works the other way around - press the chip twice and the phone starts ringing if it is within 60m. Because of the mobile app, you can also locate Chipolo on the map if the distance is greater: this is particularly useful if the keys or phone have slipped out of your pocket somewhere or when your pet gets lost.
