SIKA Sikaflex-554 is ideal for joints exposed to dynamic stress

SIKA Sikaflex-554 adhesive is ideal for joints exposed to dynamic stress. Suitable substrate materials include metal, aluminium, metal primers, paint coats, sheet steel, ceramic materials and some plastics. SIKA Sikaflex-554 adhesive is intended for professional use. Adhesion and material compatibility tests must be carried out on the actual substrates and under current conditions before application. When using on materials prone to stress cracking, tests must be carried out on original substrates.

Application:
The substrate must be clean, dry and free from grease, oil and other contaminants. Surface treatment depends on the specific nature of the substrates and is crucial for a long-lasting bond. Sikaflex®-554 can be processed between 5°C and 40°C, but changes in reactivity and application properties must be taken into account when ambient conditions change. The optimum temperature for the substrate and sealant is between 15°C and 25°C. Be aware that the viscosity will increase at low temperatures. Therefore, for easy application, condition the adhesive to the ambient temperature. To ensure a uniform thickness of the adhesive, it is recommended to apply it in the form of a triangular bead. Sikaflex®-554 can be applied with manual, pneumatic or electric guns as well as pumping equipment. The open time is significantly shorter in hot and humid climates. The parts must always be bonded within the open time. Never bond parts together if the adhesive has already formed a surface skin. Smoothing and finishing must be carried out before the product's surface skin forms. It is advisable to use Sika® Tooling Agent N for smoothing. Other agents must be tested for suitability and compatibility before use. Uncured Sikaflex®-554 can be removed from tools and equipment with Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once cured, the material can only be removed mechanically. Hands and exposed skin can be cleaned with hand wipes, e.g. Sika® Cleaner-350H or another suitable industrial hand cleaner and water. Do not use solvents on skin.
