The Tamron 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 (Model A065) is the second generation of the popular A056 lens, which has been acclaimed by photographers around the world. The new lens retains the f/2.8 aperture throughout the range and adds new VC optical stabilization and significantly improved close focusing. Yet it remains the smallest and lightest in its class - at 70mm it measures just 156.5mm and weighs 855g. Compactness is achieved by shortening the range to 180mm compared to conventional 70-200mm lenses. The optical design includes 20 elements in 15 groups, while the precise combination of special optical elements - one XLD, three LD, two GM (aspherical molded glass) and one hybrid aspherical element - significantly improves the correction of chromatic aberration and other optical defects. Special BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Second Generation) coating suppresses glare and veiling, contributing to a clear, high-contrast, high-resolution image even in challenging lighting conditions. The 70-180mm F2.8 G2's autofocus drive utilizes the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor first used in the previous generation (Model A056) and takes its proven speed and accuracy. The system is characterized by an extremely fast and smooth response, which is one of the highlights in TAMRON's history. Focusing is done in increments of 0.005mm, less than a tenth of the thickness of a human hair - allowing the photographer to execute their intent with absolute precision. Focus calculations, which have been further improved based on the development of the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 (A067) and 150-500mm F5-6.7 (A057), bring significantly improved tracking of moving objects, such as vehicles or sports scenes, which ensuresthat you can capture the most important moments - whether it's when you're shooting, or when shooting video. In addition, the linear motor makes the lens nearly silent, making it ideal in environments where silence is a must.

Proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) stabilization system

To take full advantage of the 70-180mm F2.8 G2's excellent portability, the lens is equipped with TAMRON's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization system. Compared to its predecessor (Model A056), the MOD has been shortened to 0.3 m (11.8 inches) at 70 mm and 0.85 m (33.5 inches) at 180 mm. Working distance at 70mm is just 12cm, greatly expanding the creative possibilities of a single lens - allowing you to get closer to your subject, achieve soft bokeh and create impressive shots with minimal depth of field.
