A smart lock was something I'd wanted for years, mainly for convenience and my inability to carry or fish my keys out of a heavy rucksack. For a while, I was also looking at smart handles, but since I live in a family home with an older generation, I had to keep the traditional key access. Xiaomi offered a good price and I trusted that it wouldn't be some completely ill-conceived piece of rubbish, which I can confirm it isn't. The quality is good, it fits well onto the protruding lock and holds firm. My family was sceptical at first, but they liked it right away and now they enjoy every single time they lock and unlock the door. The lock can lock itself automatically, but I don't use that feature. The thing that bothers me most is that I get notifications about everything, which I haven't been able to turn off. The lock's UI is a poor machine translation and you don't really know what you've just set up. I hope the lock will get some more updates in the future.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I’m pleasantly surprised in this case. The lock was quite easy to fit and looks good on the door. Integration with Xiaomi Home is another plus, and I can’t think of any downsides at the moment that I’d like to point out, but we’ve only been using the lock for about a day and there’s nothing to complain about. We have a lock fitted to the front door of our flat; the door is newly fitted and, naturally, has a double-sided lock cylinder, which is flush with the frame and does not protrude from it at all. I fitted it by sticking the lock frame directly onto the door frame, and it holds perfectly. We don’t usually lock the doors; we just close them. So the lock will release the latch for 3 seconds, the door will open, and then I’ll close it.

I’d say it’s a pretty good product. The only downside I can see is that you can’t set a schedule. It should allow you to set a time period during which it should ignore the automatic locking triggered by the magnet. I’ve set mine to between 6.00 and 23.00. At 11 pm, the door locks automatically, which is fine, but from 6 am onwards – when it shouldn’t be locking automatically – it keeps locking anyway and ignores the settings. So the only option for locking and unlocking at a specific time doesn’t seem to be working for me. Otherwise, I’d recommend it

I’d wanted a smart lock for a long time, but I was worried it might not be able to handle unlocking the multi-point lock and retracting the bolt (we have a deadbolt on the outside), so I gave it a go and everything works fine. The children often struggled to open the door from the outside with the key, as they didn’t have the strength to turn the key and pull the latch back; they had to pull the door towards them. I was worried that no motor would be able to manage it, but this one did so with ease. Let’s see how the battery holds up – how quickly it runs out. The lock cannot lock/unlock/engage the bolt; it can only lock/unlock completely and engage the bolt. So if I press the unlock button, the latch will retract and the door will open, because we have a rubber seal in the door to ensure a tight fit. When calibrating the lock for someone who has a handle on both sides, you shouldn’t turn the knob all the way until the bolt engages, as this would mean the lock would simply lock and unlock, which I don’t need. The pack includes a magnetic sensor for detecting whether the door is open or closed. It comes with a template to stick a few centimetres away from the lock, but there’s still a door at that distance. I tried sticking it at a distance about twice as far, and it works. Another requirement of mine was that it should have a fingerprint scanner so that the children could get in easily, even if they forgot their keys. Even children (aged 7 and 9) can manage it, although some sources have suggested that they might not be able to recognise fingerprints very well. What I wanted next, after the lock, was the ability to integrate it with Home Assistant. It supports Matter, so I went down that route. In HO, I can only see the ‘locked’ and ‘unlocked’ statuses. It works, but that’s not enough. For other automations, such as ‘turn on the alarm when I leave’, I want to know whether the door is locked from the outside or the inside. In the Xiaomi Home app, you can see whether the door was locked from the outside, whether it was locked from the inside by turning the knob, or whether it was locked from the inside by pressing the knob – in which case the motor locks it automatically. Matter can’t handle these states. There is currently an integration for HO provided directly by the manufacturer, Xiaomi, but it has not been possible to log in to it recently because it does not support multi-factor authentication. Another integration is Xiaomi Miot; I can log in there and I can see the lock, but it’s mapped incorrectly and can’t be used, so I’ll wait and see if someone fixes it. One star off because the battery has dropped by 10% since yesterday, but we’ve opened it at least 100 times and the children were thrilled. And because, for the time being, I can’t set up further automation as I’d envisaged.
