I need to back up a large collection of audio CDs to FLAC. Part of the collection is at a different location from where I currently live, so I needed to connect the drive to another computer as well. In my main computer with a more premium motherboard (ASUS TUF GAMING Z790-PRO WIFI), it runs fine and has backed up 100+ CDs, with the checksum always passing when checked via AccuRip. However, on the second computer, which has a different board (though fully supporting the required USB standard - ASUS PRIME B760M-A WIFI), I am unable to make a single accurate backup. The drive reads and plays the CDs, but clearly makes too many errors for a bit-perfect copy, because the checksum is always wrong when compared with the AccuRip database. The same problem occurred with a laptop, meaning the issue appeared on two out of three computers. Any USB power saving was always turned off, so the error couldn't be caused by the drive suddenly getting less juice. I also tried things like a 10-second CD pre-spin to eliminate initial vibration, and very low reading speeds, but that didn't help either. I returned the drive under warranty 3x and had the exact same behaviour every time. So in reality, I am only able to back up on one computer.
Compact size
Apparently sensitive to the USBs of some motherboards
Due to the aforementioned sensitivity, it is unsuitable for bit-perfect copies when archiving audio CDs
