The ice cream maker surprised me with its simplicity and speed of preparation. Preparing the mix takes about two minutes and the ice cream is on the table in half an hour; you don't need to pre-freeze anything and you usually have most of the ingredients at home. For us, as a family of four, the size is just right. It's also great that it can be used for summer drinks. I don't find the noise level disruptive at all, you can hear the mixing, but it's nothing that would bother you. I expected it to be worse, so I was pleasantly surprised. Cleaning is basically simple, there's just one less accessible spot, which is the bottom of the cylinder. A little more space for a hand to fit wouldn't hurt, but it can be cleaned with a brush. I’m extremely pleased with this Tefal ice cream maker. The resulting texture and creaminess of the ice cream really do come very close to that produced by professional commercial machines in patisseries. The ice cream is perfectly smooth and free from ice crystals.
The only slight difference compared with large professional machines is that the resulting consistency is a little softer immediately after mixing (it’s more like fresh Italian gelato). It’s perfect for serving straight away, but if anyone prefers a firmer texture, simply pop the ice cream in the freezer for a moment after scooping it, and that sorts it.
The key to success here, however, is the right recipe – just as with professional machines, you need to keep an eye on the fat content of the mixture and the amount of sugar. It is precisely the right balance of these ingredients that determines the perfect result.
Another huge advantage is the versatility of the device as a whole. As well as traditional ice cream, it can be used to make absolutely delicious slushies and perfectly chilled drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. It’s absolutely brilliant for summer and parties.
