Installing according to the instructions is hell, I tried it on one window sash and it was really bad to do it alone, the blinds guide wires got tangled in there.
Anyway, I installed it, grumbled about how ugly it was, but gradually it got a bit better. But I'm under no illusion that it can ever be applied without being seen. Imagine you're applying a thin film to a metre-long mobile phone.
The morning after installation I tried the efficiency by feel and the window with the installed film was literally hot. However, we tried a test with the thermometers placed on the bed and the thermometer behind the foil was 3 degrees lower in about 20 minutes, which is decent, so the foil actually prevents infrared (and other) radiation.
I have assessed that the problem is with the installation indoors and it traps the heat radiation that it does not pass and acts like a radiator. It might save some heat overall, but it's a shame to let it in at all.
So I tried to glue the film on the other half of the window from the outside, only in the corners on the adhesive tape without peeling off the protective layer and gluing it to the glass. In the same direction as it would be inside, i.e. the original sticky side away from the window.
The result was great, the window is cool to the touch and blocks the penetration of radiation as well (thermometer test). Plus it looks better too, it just waves a bit but there are no nasty bubbles, bumps etc. I also measured the temperature directly at the window and the difference was an abysmal 6 down degrees compared to the indoor installation. The film without the peeled protective layer is a little darker, but both solutions have good transparency, there is a small mirror effect, but it can be done.
The only question is the longevity of the outdoor installation, but when I see it working, I tape it around so it doesn't get messy and blow away in the wind. So I recommend the foil. Just do not glue according to the instructions, but from the outside of the window, as you unwind it, without peeling off the protective layer.
I personally cut the width from the longer side of the roll and used the shorter 92 cm for the height. In this way you can make 3-4 windows (width 50-66 cm) with a height of 92 cm out of a roll of 2 meters, which is enough for the passage of light, and the rest I glued from the outside with an isothermal blanket (in every pharmacy for a few ten crowns), which works similarly, but is basically opaque. Foil is not exactly cheap and if I were cutting a window to size (about 53 x 130) I would only make one.
