The headphones are decent, sturdy and well-made; the materials are better than they used to be. The synthetic leather seems as though it might be able to withstand a fair bit (and I certainly don’t worry that I’ll tear it just by wearing it, as I did with the XM5). The battery life is shorter, but given their weight, I’d rather have slightly shorter battery life than add to the weight. Despite the weight, we’re doing fine. The case is quite nice. The strength of the metal is reassuring; the material feels pleasant to the touch, though not smooth. Visually, I’d say it’s a cut above the XM6 – the design and the sharp lines of those models always caught my eye.
What’s really bad is the wear sensor, which is the same as on the XM5 (and I suppose the XM6 too) – it’s basically useless, unreliable, and probably only works in winter, and even then, it’s hit or miss. Sony can’t do that anymore.
The ANC is decent, although perhaps not quite as good as the xm6. But it seems to me that, partly thanks to its better sound damping, it’s better than the XM5 in its own right.
The sound is simply Sony. It’s not bad, but it’s not accurate. Sony is simply a consumer-focused company, and even though these are probably the best-sounding Sony products, well… it’s still Sony. They aren’t designed for audiophiles who prioritise accuracy; in fact, they’re better than the Momentum 4 when it comes to the metre. As for the downsides, I’ll skip over format support – anyone who wants aptX and its lossless variants probably isn’t looking at Sony in the first place. However, it’s a good choice for Samsung devices that support LDAC. Samsung doesn’t have any headphones, and unfortunately, when it comes to lossless audio, LDAC is the only option.
And one final note – the price certainly doesn’t do justice to the sound. It’s a matter of design and luxury within the Sony range (and at that point, it’s simply a question of whether you’re willing to pay for it, or whether you’d prefer a more attractively priced option with better sound quality – especially if you can take advantage of aptX HD and lossless support). Just a little something special next to the XM6. I chose them as a replacement for the XM5, rather than the XM6, which I simply don’t like.
The lack of USB-C support is a bit of a shame, but it’s just for charging. At least they can play whilst charging and don’t switch off.

I returned the headphones; they’re not worth the price. There are better alternatives. The shell-shaped cover will wear out over time, so it’s better to choose plastic or metal rather than imitation leather. The treble is clear and well-defined, with good instrument separation and decent bass. However, the mids aren't great at all and are rather muted; the EQ helped a bit. Overall, the sound is slightly muffled. It depends on the kind of music you listen to – R&B, pop and electronic music will sound decent, but for classical, rock, metal and the like... are unsuitable, and there are far better alternatives.
workmanship – a sense of quality
fits well, comfortable
Support for LC3 and LDAC
decent treble and decent bass
sound – muddy mids
ANC could have been better
The Sennheiser HDB 630 headphones sound better, are cheaper and are better equipped overall
in the 'below-average battery life' category
without support for enhanced AptX (understandably)
without USB audio support

I was really looking forward to the headphones and finally returned them after two days. Compared to the XM6, they offer nothing more than workmanship and comfort, and in several respects they are rather inferior. Compared to my B&W PX8 S2, the sound is bland and uncharged. Hopefully next time Sony will try harder, it's a big missed opportunity

worse ANC than xm6
not much battery life
sound average, rather disappointing
the matrial is imitation leather, for the price offered they would deserve real leather or something that is easy to wipe sweat off

I am no veteran of the SONY WH-1000XM series. I started with XM5 after some time upgrading to XM6 and now I ended up with THE COLLEXION. The first time I wore the XM5 I was enchanted. Great sound and the ambient noise cancellation was just awesome. After time to switch to the XM6 I was again and even more impressed with the sound but the suppression of ambient noise did not seem so much and frankly I was a little disappointed. In the beginning, I was comparing XM5 XM6 XM5 XM6 over and over and over again. With XM6 I didn't like the vacuum so much, but of course I got used to it, because the sound was a bit better and they came up with cinema mode. It's great how SONY is gradually giving it to us, but it also costs some money. My VERDICT? The verdict is that out of THE COLLEXION series, I am the most definitive person and fan from SONY's mid-range headphones so far. ANC is somewhere between XM5/XM6 and the sound is again more detailed than its predecessor and the comfort on the stick is simply priceless. Check out the video-reviews and I totally agree with Peter Mara. LUXURY AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL IN BOTH MATERIAL AND SOUND IS LUXURY. This is my subjective opinion as a member of this world between normal and middle class so please take that into consideration.

I own an xm3, an mx4 and had an xm6 for a longer test. I use the headphones intensively (8h a day) - commuting to work, office, phone calls and at home. In terms of comfort the xm4 works best for me, they have the best earcups (xm6 tragedy - they are too tight) Xm6 sound and noise cancelling the best, a lot of this is attributed to said earcups and better hw + sw, but they give me a headache. So far I'm sticking with XM4 - they sound and attenuate perfectly enough (no need to tune the equalizer as with XM6), they can do all the necessary codecs, 2 devices and especially they are comfortable, which in the end you appreciate most when you are not an occasional user. Verdict: The 1000x are great headphones, but they're not really worth the money.
The qualitative leap is not so big. I'll probably buy a stock XM4 when they become available.
they play and dampen nicely
a little harder, it's noticeable after a few hours
the price is IMHO not adequate

If you're thinking of buying and have an XM6, I'm putting a thought-provoking signpost below. I have a WH1000 XM6 at the same time, so I'm comparing it to them: 1. Do you use WH mainly at home and only occasionally use ANC at home? > buy 1000X collexion 2. Do you use WH outdoors/office/do you have ANC on frequently due to ambient noise? > Buy XM6 I personally use large headphones only at home and ANC at home rather rarely. Outdoors/office I prefer WF earbuds because of their compactness and I have ANC on them almost constantly.
Quality of workmanship and material
Sound
Comfort even when worn for long periods of time
DSEE Ultimate
Overall feeling of spaciousness of the soundstage
Travel case with magnetic clip
A bit worse ANC compared to WH1000 XM6 (I hope it will improve with the FW update)
