I was a little worried given the other reviews, but all I had to do was wash the mold properly before the first use (which I assume we all do with dishes and other utensils) and the smell was gone. The lid is also made of silicone, but it is very easy to put on and the water will not spill in the freezer.
It stinks, but it really stinks, washing it with spring doesn't help, boiling it with citric acid doesn't help. I do not recommend this product, due to the smell I find it to be a health hazardous product that can cause problems, Alza should not offer this at all.
