Keeps the heat in, the carabiner looks good quality and feels nice to hold. Tried it so far only on a few days trek but no problem. We tried putting one on the gas stove to heat water for tea. We just took a chance. As it's double walled, it obviously took time and got waterlogged, so I don't recommend it, although the mug stood up to it. Info for grammarians - it has 142g; )
