It is not mentioned in the specs at all, but the seller claims in the order that the cable is with USB-to-serial converter FT232RL. However, the delivered cable had a CH340 converter. For device diagnostics, where it is necessary to set the response time to 1 ms, it is unusable. Specifically for diagnosing the Webasto heater, it is really needed, because it connected with a high response in about three attempts out of ten. I returned the cable. In the meantime, I got a FTDI chip elsewhere and it works reliably. However, for the rest, there is no need to connect to old Windows for normal diagnostics, the cable works also on 64bit one-liners, as well as the normal software VCDS/VAG-COM/Webasto Thermo Test. Except that in the case of the Webasto software the connection is unreliable, but this is not due to the Windows version, but to the converter used on the serial link in the cable itself. You only need to install the correct drivers for the CH340/CH341 converter directly from the chip manufacturer (look for CH341SER on the chip manufacturer's website wch-ic.com), BEFORE connecting the cable for the first time. If you have already connected the cable and Windows has used some random drivers for the cable, find the cable in Device Manager and update to the correct ones. Older Windows are needed only in cases when you need to use some specific function that is present only in some historical version of drivers or diagnostic software, which is either hard to find on newer OS or does not even exist.
