• We use the purchased soundbar with an LG 55QNED86A6A TV, whose sound performance falls far short of the superlatives stated in its product description.
• Contrary to expectations given the size of the drivers and the lack of a subwoofer, the soundbar's contribution is surprisingly good, particularly in the low frequencies. On the other hand, high-frequency reproduction is surprisingly weaker than on the TV to which the soundbar is connected.
• Speech is therefore clearer from the TV speakers without the soundbar, which is mainly useful when listening to music programmes, either on its own or together with the TV speakers – the WOW Orchestra feature.
• In Standard sound mode, you can set different equaliser values for the TV and the soundbar, which are preserved even in WOW Orchestra mode. It is a pity that you cannot also set a separate volume level for each device in this mode – this would help to emphasise the treble from the TV speakers without causing an unwanted change to the bass levels from the soundbar. Also, the preset sound modes AI SOUND PRO, CINEMA, STANDARD, and GAME change on both devices at the same time and cannot be combined. • For many functions of a soundbar and TV from the same manufacturer, the reciprocal option to use the remote controls of both devices (and even our IPTV provider's set-top box) is very user-friendly for sound settings.
• To identify changes in the soundbar's modes, in addition to a rather complex combination of different colours and the number of active LEDs (one to three) on the front of the soundbar, there is also a one-word English voice announcement. Its muffled, deep tone is really hard to understand, if not completely unintelligible, even for a fairly experienced English speaker with practice. Unfortunately, turning the voice off does not work in all cases.
• For controlling both the TV and the soundbar, downloading and using the LG ThinQ app is highly beneficial. For changing modes and their settings, LG ThinQ offers much more user-friendly touch icons, sliders for adjusting treble/bass across three bands, and other options.
• Considering the price range of the product, the soundbar's shortcomings can be tolerated.
• In practice, the USB interface on the soundbar is redundant when connected to the TV. Playing from the TV's USB offers more options and a clear graphical interface.
Decent bass considering the driver sizes
Weak treble. Perhaps it depends on the signal available from the TV input.
