I ordered some Lavazza Espresso Gran Crema Barista coffee in its new, modern packaging, on the reasonable assumption that the newer packaging would contain slightly fresher coffee beans than those that have been sitting around since last year. What did I receive? Old packaging with a production date of 2025. I suppose mistakes do happen; the warehouse worker must have had a tough day. I made a complaint and sent photos as if for nursery school children – on the left, what I want; on the right, the ‘historical’ item they sent me. And what was the outcome of Alza’s sleight of hand? They repackaged it and sent it again. And, to everyone’s surprise, the box contained the same old packaging again. Yet the website still says ‘5 in stock’ (obviously the right five, which they’re successfully keeping from me). I don’t know whether there are people with severe visual impairments working in the dispatch department, or whether there’s just someone sitting there who’s decided that Jirka will simply drink that old coffee, even if we have to send it to him ten times. Coffee in itself is fine, but if you want the real thing,

If you’re craving a bit of that healthy consumer adrenaline rush and want to waste your time testing the intelligence of Alza’s fulfilment centre, I highly recommend it.

This stronger blend (70% Arabica, 30% Robusta) with higher caffeine content and minimal acidity from the Lavazza series is definitely a good buy.
A medium roast coffee, very suitable for super-automatic "presso" coffee machines - I personally use the JURA E8 (EC) in my home machine for virtually all of the coffee specialties it offers. But it stands out the most in the Italian cream specialities Espresso, Cappucino and Latte Macchiato. Very pleasant and delicious aroma with a fruity hint and a subtly pronounced taste. Beautifully frothy. Really excellent coffee.
I would still like to try the 100% "ORO" Arabica Lavazza series, namely "Lavazza Qualità Oro Mountain Grown".
