there are some lines with numbers in the top, but it is not clear how much is to be poured in. In the reviews here everyone says it's easy to use, but it's not, maybe only for some cooks. I poured water in, nothing for half an hour and then there was a layer of parched rice on the bottom. I don't understand at all what it is for, but it definitely doesn't do rice ALONE.
the instructions don't tell you how much water to put in, so I don't use it to keep it from burning
