Unfortunately, following my personal experience, I’ll stop buying coffee from Alza. I first bought this coffee here at the start of May – it was a batch roasted in March – and I was absolutely delighted. I’m no hipster, and I’ve never really believed when people say they can taste chocolate and nuts in their coffee (or rather, I’ve never tasted them myself), but here I really did taste the chocolate, and the coffee was perfect even without sugar. I was really excited to order it a few days ago – in mid-June – and the batch I received was roasted on 9 October 2025, meaning the coffee is more than eight months old. I know it’s still a long way from its use-by date, but the difference in flavour is staggering. No crema – just black water with the smell and taste of Turkish coffee in a village pub. So, as far as I’m concerned, when it’s fresh it’s 5/5, but when it’s old it’s a massive disappointment, which is why it’s 0/0. But that’s not the coffee’s fault – it’s more to do with the distribution.

For me personally, this is probably the best coffee. A distinctive taste without acidity but at the same time without a pronounced bitterness. Strong, chocolatey taste. I use it in a hand press.
