Why? Because otherwise it falls out of the eye in turns, e. g. Škoda Octavia (2016) has a vertical eye made of weak wire. You can only pull straight here, the pole will fall out in a bend. Hyundai Tucson (2016) also has a vertical eye, but made of stronger material, and the rod holds there, but there is no reliance on it. The towed vehicle must always brake. It is worse on a 1.8m pole than on a classic rope. Towing a car with no engine (no power steering or brakes) is an adrenaline rush. Waste of money. I don't understand the positive reviews.
