The most important parameters when selecting a CPU are the frequency and number of cores.
For running office applications or surfing the Internet, a less powerful processor is sufficient.
For gaming or more demanding tasks, choose 4 or more core processors - such as the Intel Core i5 or Core i7.
Grafics Card
An integrated graphics card can handle every-day tasks.
A dedicated (separate) graphics card is especially suitable for playing games and working with graphics.
Size of the Memory
The higher the RAM capacity, the more tasks your laptop can handle at the same time.
For less demanding users, typically 4 to 8GB of RAM is sufficient.
For demanding games and applications, the optimum capacity is 16GB RAM and more.
Type and Capacity of the Hard Drive
Laptops can contain a variety of hard drives - HDDs, SSDs, or SSHDs.
HDDs have moving parts, are inexpensive, and can handle large amounts of data. The disadvantage is lower speed and susceptibility to shocks.
SSDs do not have moving parts, they are ultra-fast, and, at the same capacity, they are considerably more expensive than HDDs. They are not susceptible to shocks.
SSHD drives are hybrid drives - an HDD with SSD memory that stores frequently used data, which significantly reduces application and OS loading time.
A typical HDD with a capacity of up to 500GB is enough for ordinary users - it can hold about 100 DVD movies.
For more advanced users, we recommend a combination of HDD and SSD or SSHD.
If the maximum data transfer rate is important, get a laptop with only an SSD drive.
Display
It is important to consider both the display type and the maximum resolution.
The display type may be glossy, matte or anti-reflective.
The glossy display has brighter colors, but reflects a lot of ambient light.
The matte or anti-reflective reflection display does not reflect much and is more suitable for travel.
The higher the resolution, the finer the picture - Full HD and 4K resolution are more suited to working with graphics, playing games and watching movies.
and
Image technology is also important - you can find TN and IPS displays most often. A TN display is cheaper, has high brightness and fast response times, but worse viewing angles. An IPS display is the opposite - it offers more faithful colours and wide viewing angles, but gives lower contrast and slower response time. Want to learn more about image technologies?
Basic Laptops
Basic laptops handle less demanding activities, such as surfing the Internet, watching movies or playing simple games. If you are an undemanding user, basic laptops are a great choice; you aren't paying for more than you need.
Office Laptops
Office laptops are ideal for work. They offer a thin and lightweight design for more comfortable transportation and long battery life. It is possible to find anything from less powerful laptops that are optimal for running office applications and the Internet to high-performance machines. There are also 2-in-1 or Tablet/PC notebooks that are a compromise between a tablet and a laptop.
Gaming Laptops
The ideal guideline for choosing a gaming laptop is the price - with cheaper machines, less demanding games are great but newer games may need to be played with lower resolutions. Higher prices then increase your power and you will play the most exacting games to their full extent, depending on your laptop's parameters. When choosing, focus mainly on the processor and graphics card. If you intend to tap into virtual reality, CoR support also plays an important role.
Professional Laptops
Unlike office models, professional laptops offer much higher performance and can manage more challenging tasks and applications. They are used for editing videos, working with audio, running CAD programs, and so on. If you need a notebook to work with graphics, the most important components are the graphics card, processor and RAM memory. To work with audio, however, the graphics card becomes less important and it is worth investing more in the processor.
These days, defining what a laptop is not so simple. Laptops are no longer just expensive typewriters that are unable to handle demanding programs. In recent years, laptops have dropped to the same price level as desktop computers, with some models able to work for over eight hours on a single battery charge. Laptops offer sufficient performance and features for users to replace their desktop computers completely, not to mention their compact size, low weight and portability.
Laptops consist of the same hardware components as desktop computers. Such components have customised parameters (primarily reduced size and energy consumption) for use in laptops, and therefore use different internal ports and slots, but the principle is the same as for larger components used in desktop computers. With respect to compatibility and auxiliary equipment, external ports are generally the same as on desktop PCs.
How to choose a laptop
When choosing a new laptop, it is important to clarify what you need it for. Important parameters when choosing a laptop include the screen size, processor type, amount of RAM, graphics card (in case you want to play games or work with multimedia), weight, and available equipment.
