Intel Core i7-14700KF

The Intel Core i7-14700KF 20-core gaming processor delivers excellent gaming performance. It is based on the Intel Raptor Lake processor architecture. Using an innovative approach, the processor combines 8 performance cores for demanding applications and games with 12 efficient cores for multitasking. This brings it closer to the more advanced i9 model. Intel Raptor Lake Refresh processors are supported on boards with Intel 600-series chipsets. However, you get maximum performance when using the newer Intel 700-series chipset. In some cases, you will need to update the motherboard firmware to the latest version.

Intel Core i7-14700KF runs at up to 5.6GHz

The modern Core i7-14700KF processor offers a base clock speed of 3.4GHz for its 8 performance cores. As the load increases, the frequency boosts up to 5.6GHz, which has a positive impact, especially in gaming or when processing up to 8K HDR video at 60 FPS. 14th generation Intel Core processors rely on performance and efficient cores. Compared to the 13th generation, the operating frequency and L3 Cache capacity have been increased, and in some cases, more cores are available. This results in another performance boost while maintaining the same power consumption.

Intel Thread Director

The new Intel Raptor Lake Refresh processor is compatible with both DDR5 and DDR4 motherboards, so you can choose the option that suits you best. To ensure the ideal distribution of demands on the big and small cores of the Core i7-14700KF processor, Intel developed the special Thread Director hardware scheduler.

Processor cores and threads

Processor cores work, to a certain extent, like separate processors and can handle computational tasks independently of each other. The more physical cores a processor has, the more tasks it can process simultaneously. Threads can be described as separate virtual cores, which all modern processors have. An eight-core processor typically has sixteen threads, meaning it can handle sixteen processes at once.
Intel processors

Processor frequency

The operating frequency indicates the speed of the processor. Generally, a processor with a higher frequency can execute instructions faster than one with a lower frequency. A higher frequency ensures smoother and faster responses in everyday computer use, such as launching applications, browsing the internet, or editing documents. It ranges from 1 to 5GHz. Some CPUs enable a short-term frequency increase under heavy load (Turbo Boost).
Intel Processors

L2 and L3 cache

For a processor to work as quickly as possible, it needs fast storage for temporary data. This is where the on-chip L2 and L3 cache come in. Although these memory stores are significantly smaller than RAM, they are much faster. The L2 and L3 caches are the first storage the processor interacts with, and generally, the bigger, the better.
Intel Processors

Processor socket

Before choosing a new processor, you need to know which hardware connector (socket) your motherboard has. The processor and motherboard must have the same socket designation – this is the first step to a functional build. Another important factor is the type of RAM. You should know what type of RAM you have.
Intel Processors

TDP (Thermal Design Power)

TDP (Thermal Design Power) is a processor parameter that indicates the amount of heat it produces under maximum load, while also suggesting its energy consumption. A lower TDP means the processor consumes less power and generates less heat, which is ideal for laptops or energy-efficient systems. Conversely, processors with a high TDP offer higher performance but require advanced cooling to prevent overheating.
Intel Processors

Processor cooling

A processor, much like a graphics card, generates heat during operation that needs to be dissipated to keep the processor cool. Some chip packages already include a cooler, but if you want to be absolutely sure you have enough cooling power for the processor's performance, you should get an external one. External CPU coolers come in various sizes and performance levels, and many support stylish RGB backlighting. You can get a classic air-cooled version or a modern liquid-cooled one.
