Such catastrophic scenarios can be warded off by the CyberPower VP1000ELCD backup source, or UPS. This hardware is practically a battery reservoir that provides power for all appliances needing electricity. The CyberPower VP1000ELCD UPS battery backup features the Line interactive design approach. Off-line is the most basic form in case of a black-out, since it switches power to the UPS unit itself. The line interactive UPS also adds power protection to guard against dangerous surges and spikes.

An important attribute is the UPS run time. This depends on the power consumption of the connected appliances – for example, at half-load (50%), the backup time will be three times longer. The load of the UPS governs the operating time, which at full load is 1 min and at a load of 50%, it's 9 min. It is therefore necessary to determine the energy consumption of the connected electronics and it is best to have some extra power left. The CyberPower VP1000ELCD specifies the apparent power as 1000, but realistically, the actual power usage is 550 W.
