ARCTIC Freezer 4U-Altra
ARCTIC Freezer 4U-Altra
The ARCTIC Freezer 4U-Altra active processor cooler dissipates heat from processors in server cases and racks from 4U in size. This single-tower cooling system uses airflow generated by two 120mm fans to cool the CPU. The manufacturer designed this system for continuous operation in enterprise servers and data centres under constant load. The heatsink is constructed from aluminium fins and eight copper heat pipes. The device supports both the Ampere Altra and Altra Max platforms with an LGA4926 socket.
Key features of the ARCTIC Freezer 4U-Altra processor cooler
- Heatsink with 8 copper heat pipes, each 6mm in diameter
- Two fans in a push-pull configuration
- Fans with dual ball bearings for continuous operation
- Dissipates heat up to a TDP of 350W
- Total cooler power consumption of only 2.88W
- 53mm of clearance above the motherboard for memory installation
- Dimensions: 145 × 124 × 156mm
Cooling performance
The device can dissipate a thermal output of up to 350W. This heat dissipation is achieved with very low fan power consumption. The total power draw of the fans is just 2.88W, contributing to the high energy efficiency of the entire server. The heatsink effectively dissipates heat into the surrounding area. The system maintains stable processor temperatures even under prolonged load.
Construction
The core of the heatsink block consists of eight 6mm copper heat pipes. These pipes use direct-touch technology with the processor's surface. This allows heat from the processor to transfer directly to the aluminium fins. The heatsink block contains a total of 57 aluminium fins, each 0.4mm thick. This structure facilitates rapid heat transfer from the processor to the airflow.
Fans
Forced airflow is provided by two 120mm fans. These fans operate in a push-pull configuration, where one pushes air into the heatsink and the other pulls it out. The rotation speed ranges from 400 to 2300RPM. The speed is controlled by the motherboard via a PWM signal. The fans generate a high static pressure of 3.3mm H₂O to overcome the resistance of the fins.
Bearings and lifespan
The fans use dual ball bearings, which are suitable for continuous operation. These bearings exhibit high resistance to wear and tear, even under constant load. The manufacturer designed the system for 24/7 operation. This mechanical design reduces the risk of fan failure during operation.
RAM compatibility
The cooler's design leaves enough free space for installing RAM modules in close proximity to the processor socket. The clearance under the metal heatsink is exactly 53mm. This space is suitable for fitting RAM modules with integrated mid-height passive heatspreaders. The cooler does not block adjacent memory slots on the motherboard, which simplifies upgrading or replacing memory modules in the server case.
